Lisette and I have been working this past year to save some money for our Three Year Retreat coming up in October 2010.
We see the recent global economic meltdown magnifying due to fear. To throw a wrench in the samsaric mini-cycle and create the causes for us to have our own retreat cabin, we will not give into fear of scarcity. We will not be using the money we’ve saved for ourselves.
We have donated our $10,000 to build a retreat cabin for Mercedes Bahleda.
A cabin that meets Arizona’s required building codes will cost somewhere between $22,500 and $42,000 depending on what is being built.

Inspired by the New York Times story, Slate writers David Plotz and Hanna Rosin “decided to subject their marriage to the Roach-McNally discipline.”
They video taped their experience of trying to stay within 15 ft apart for one day. It is very sweet and sincere. It looks like it may have helped their marriage.
Here is there article inspired by Geshe Michael and Lama Christie and their practice of never more than 15-feet apart.
The article was picked up by NPR who is inviting couples to try to stay together for 24-hours within 15-feet apart and share their experiences. You can call Day to Day at (310) 841-5180. They will select some messages to play on the air next week.

The New York Times published an interesting and balanced article by reporter Leslie Kaufman focusing on the Spiritual Partnership between Geshe Michael and Lama Christie.
It also includes a slide show from inside their yurt. This is the one they did their 3-year retreat in, and now where they live 4-months of the year, when teaching at Diamond Mountain University. You can also hear Geshe Michael and Lama Christie’s voice during the interview which is included on the slide show.
Much of the article is focused on the approximately 15-foot boundary the have kept for 10-years to never be separate from each other. It’s an extraordinary practice that shatters the tendency to be selfish. Just try it for a day or two with your partner to see what challenges it brings up in your mind. It will also give you insight into how remarkable and spiritually advanced these two Lamas are.
Being around them for many years now, we can report how effortlessly and happily they keep this practice.
